Wix is perhaps the most popular website builder in the world. It has something for everyone – with 3 different types of editors, hundreds of themes, and thousands of plugins, it’s versatile beyond any of the competition. And so, for most people looking for a platform to make a website, this might look like the right option to choose.

Wix actually gives you two website builders. First up – ADI. It works by asking you a few questions about what you need on your site. Then it comes up with 3 similar, but modern-looking designs to choose from. After that, well, you can just publish your website, since you already have everything you need. But if you want to tweak things, you can go and edit your design further. ADI doesn’t allow you to add individual elements to a page. You can only add either fully structured pages or blocks to those pages.
Wix Editor is the real Wix deal. It’s more complicated and has fewer restrictions when it comes to your designs. You have a responsive drag-and-drop control scheme
AND there are barely any restrictions on elements or things you can do in the free version. If you want, you also can activate Dev Mode, which lets you see and customize various code elements throughout your website. Now since there’s a lot of features and settings in this mode, you can get stuck or lost sometimes. So there will be a bit of a learning curve, but nothing you can’t handle.
Obviously, the free plan is bad for any business or professional website. It is amazing if you want to test designs, do school projects, or other non-serious web things. All of the premium plans allow you to use a custom domain and add a free SSL certificate. But not all of them will remove those pesky ads. Overall, while I have some problems with Wix pricing, you will get a lot from both free and premium plans.
Editing with Wix is like an adventure, you can pick how difficult you want it to be. No, it’s not perfect – the pricing could be a bit cheaper and the free plan is more for experimentation. But you can build a good looking website that will have pretty solid performance when it comes to speed. So I absolutely recommend you give it a shot.
